Alyssa Colbert, known as "Lys," is a singer/songwriter & musical artist originating in Olympia, Washington.
With influences such as Deb Never, Laurel, Benee, Young the Giant, Jadu Heart, and Paramore, her style reflects
that of an acoustic Indie rock while incorporating electronic sounds, such as synthesizers, keyboards,
psychedelic bass lines, and hints of ambience. Lys praises the idea of originality and not residing in just one or two genres.
Whether taking that night drive solo or with some friendly humans, Lys music will take you on a
ride of emotions… and if anything, provoke some deep thinking.
While exhibiting solemn and often darker lyrics/hues, her music also communicates levels of Hope, Rebirth & Aliveness.
Born to be a Star
It is no shocker that Lys pursued music. As a young child, she was a natural entertainer. She was able to hum an entire song and sing the lyrics to her family after listening to it just once.
Growing up a military child, Lys had the opportunity to live abroad.
In Okinawa, Japan, Lys was signed with LL Agency (agency for child actors and models). Companies such as Cannon hired her for
Hip Hop photos, videos, and commercial acting. This spurred Lys's desire for more. When she returned to the states with her family,
Lys started training with Seattle Talent .
This is where she honed her acting skills, thus to be given monthly auditions and meet with well-known talent scouts.
In 2015, Lys was invited to attend IMTA (International Modeling and Talent Association) in New York City. Call-backs were
offered to Lys, but because of timing, Lys was off to college.
Four years later she graduated at the top of her class with a bachelor's in criminal justice. Lys is a high achiever and is now ready to share
herself and her musical talents with the world.
Looking to the Future
Lys self taught herself to play the ukulele in 2014 and eventually shifted toward acoustic guitar. Becoming obsessed with the process of producing her own sounds to sing along to, she started posting short snippets and covers on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Writing became a way for Lys to speak freely about her emotions, mental states, and experiences, and do so in a way that provided clarity, healing, and the ability to bring life to a situation that seemed hopeless. In other words, turning something bad into something good. The songs Lys writes is her therapy put into words.
Coming out soon are Lys’s “Explosive States” and "Mess Everything Up". These two hits give the listener a relaxed, as well as upbeat take on the struggles and confusion that overrides the frequents of the mind. While expressing helplessness and vulnerability, these songs also serve as a reminder that the darker parts are no place to reside, but to transform and inspire your soul.
